About Us
The Young Israel of Forest Hills, located at the corner of Yellowstone Boulevard and Burns Street, was organized in 1951 by a handful of idealistic people who wanted to develop a model Orthodox community in Forest Hills. The shul has been the core of Modern Orthodoxy in the community for over 65 years. Committed to Torah values and subscribing to the philosophy of the Young Israel Movement, we have emerged as a force in the building of positive Jewish life in our community.
The shul has youth activities, a Sisterhood, and a well-attended Senior program, open to all seniors in the Forest Hills-Rego Park community. We host, on a regular basis, special events and lectures of interest to the entire community.
We have a profound religious affect on many individuals and families, and enhance the general Forest Hills Jewish community by supporting Jewish education, encouraging proper Kosher standards and promoting good works for the community and beyond. We were the first synagogue outside of Israel to hold a Holocaust commemoration and have maintained this tradition for almots 60 years. We always have been and will continue to be dedicated to the State of Israel and to mobilizing local resources for Israel and work Jewry. Members of our Shul are involved in local weekly food delivery to the poor, the Forest Hills-Rego Park chapter of Queens Hatzolah, and have a committee that reaches out to the hospitalized and the homebound.
Learning
The synagogue has a variety of weekly adult education classes.
